The Taiwan Space Agency (TASA) will set up a booth at Taiwan Expo Indonesia 2019 at the end of September this year to showcase Taiwan’s aerospace achievements, including satellite imagery from Formosat-5 and key components of the Triton satellite.
The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) will host the Taiwan Expo in Surabaya, Indonesia in September. TASA will lead a delegation composed of representatives from National Central University, Gran Systems, Polaris Photonics, Pyras Technology, and other related academic-industrial units in the Taiwanese aerospace industry to exhibit Taiwan’s aerospace research achievements.
Mr. Hsien-cheng Yu, Deputy Director of TASA, confirmed in an interview that this is not only the first time TASA has participated in this exhibition but also the first time that TASA has organized a delegation from the academic and industrial sectors to participate. TASA will showcase various satellite components independently developed in Taiwan at this exhibition, including key components of the domestically developed Triton satellite.
Mr. Feng-tai Huang, an engineer at TASA, explained that the achievements exhibited by TASA in Indonesia this time will mainly focus on Formosat-5 and Triton satellites. He stated that the key components such as satellite computers, GPS receivers, and power control systems carried by the Triton satellite are domestically developed, hoping to demonstrate Taiwan’s aerospace technology strength through participation.
In addition to independently developed satellite components, satellite imagery from Formosat-5 will also be exhibited. Mr. Huang pointed out that the remote sensing capability and image quality of Formosat-5 can overcome Indonesia’s technological limitations and vast territory, hoping to promote further cooperation between the two countries through this exhibition.
Mr. Huang revealed that TASA’s choice of Indonesia as the first exhibition destination is mainly due to three advantages. Firstly, Indonesia is the Southeast Asian country that values space technology the most. Secondly, Indonesia’s aerospace budget is the highest among Southeast Asian countries, even surpassing Taiwan. Thirdly, Indonesia is also committed to independent research and development in the aerospace industry.
Mr. Huang believes that Indonesia and Taiwan have many similarities in aerospace development planning, and further cooperation will be beneficial to the aerospace technology development of both parties.
